I picked up the uke in college because of a band called Three Plus. The first uke I bought was this $80 soprano from a guitar shop on the westside. I led some worship songs with it for our fellowship in college, then let my cousin borrow it (indefinitely) when I ordered a new tenor uke.
I never progressed enough to ever consider myself a uke player, but if I ever do, I want to be able to play this:
